The State Government is putting $11.5million into six Northern Rivers projects including a new cold storage and blast freeze unit in Casino.
The McCaughey Group based at Spring Grove will get $4million from the government and will match that to make an $8million investment to create a national distribution hub.
McCaughey Group chief executive Phillip McCaughey said it’s wonderful news for the company and the entire Northern Rivers region.
The development is fully approved, and with government funding now secured, construction is set to move ahead later this year, Mr McCaughey said.
State MP Richie Williamson said, “It was a real vote of confidence in the future of Casino as a key player in Australia’s food production and export industries.”
Together with the co-contributions from the six successful Northern Rivers applicants, these projects will inject $17.7million into ventures including a new flood resistant athletic track in Lismore, funding to revitalise the Tweed Heads CBD, and programs to create better jobs for Indigenous workers.
Minister for Recovery, Small Business and the North Coast Janelle Saffin said the funding is great news for Lismore, Casino, Taree, Bowraville, Tweed and the Northern Rivers.
Further announcements regarding other successful projects from the Regional Development Trust will be made in the coming months.
The funding is from the government’s Regional Development Trust Community Investment Program.
