An algal bloom has been reported near the marina at Evans Head.
Richmond Valley Council said it is to likely to be Trichodesmium.
These blooms may appear as brownish slicks in the water, or pink and green in later life stages.
Council advised water users to avoid areas affected by the blooms as skin and eye irritation can occur in some people.
These blooms generally resolve naturally depending on tides and weather conditions.
