Basketball is back in Casino.
Cindy Richards was keen to start up a basketball team because her son wanted to play.
It had been years since Casino had a basketball club.
Cindy joined other locals to get the Casino RSM Kings Basketball Association running again.
“We have been privileged to have the Sydney Kings chief executive Paul Kind help us get on our feet. We are like the little brother of the Sydney Kings,” Cindy said.
Paul Kind is from Casino and is co-owner of the renowned Sydney Kings basketball team.
“Paul not only designed our logo but also helped put us on the right track,” Cindy said.
Cindy is most keen about Aussie Hoops – this is how players 5–10 years learn more about the game.
The Casino RSM Kings teams have been training at Colley Park Indoor Sports Stadium for a year now.
Like most sports teams in Casino, the sponsors of the sport are important.
“Casino businesses have been so generous towards our sporting organisations and we are forever grateful for lending us a helping hand to get us on our feet,” Cindy said.
“Richmond Valley Council and the Office of Sports grants have been lifesavers”.
The Casino team are training hard to hopefully enter into the North Coast Shield Competition in 2025, representing Casino in age groups: Under 12s, 14s, 16s, and 18s (girls and boys).
We’re also excited to announce that our Open Men’s Team will be competing in the Sunshine Conference, a senior representative basketball competition, Cindy said.
The club has 60 members as it faces its second season in the game.
“If you have a love for basketball and some free time, we’d love for you to be part of the Casino RSM Kings family.”
This can be in coaching, refereeing, or helping behind the scenes.
“Every bit of support makes a difference,” Cindy said.
The club offers referee and coaching courses throughout the year for those interested in developing their knowledge and contributing to the game.
