BlazeAid volunteers will be setting up camp in Bonalbo at the showgrounds on January 16.

Camp coordinator Gary Lawrence is from Toowoomba in Queensland. He helped set up camp in Lismore in September last year.

Now BlazeAid is headed to Bonalbo because of the damage done by the fires in October and November last year.

“We have about 20km of fencing to do,” Gary said.

He reckons it will take two to three months depending on the difficulty of the terrain.

Gary said the volunteers get a lot of satisfaction and appreciation from the work they do.

Farmers provide the materials and we provide the free labour, Gary said.

The volunteers have self contained vans and caravans and there will be a basic shelter for people who want to help but don’t have accommodation.

What the Bonalbo camp really needs is help in the camp kitchen.

Gary said they have the food but need help from a community group with cooking as most volunteers will be out all day fixing fences.

If you can help with cooking at the Bonalbo camp call Gary on 0427 390 851.
