Emergency services were called to a unit on Park Street, Evans Head at 8.10am after a welfare concern was reported today, Friday, March 8.
At Park Street, police found the body of a woman in the boot of a car. The 60 year old woman had stab wounds.
A 39 year old man who is the son of the dead woman was arrested at the scene and taken to Ballina Police Station.
Police have established a crime scene and launched an investigation.
