Bull prices remain strong with 20 head sold at NRLX sale

Agents yarded 1671 head at the Northern Rivers Livestock Exchange regular prime sale on Wednesday, May 3.

There were plenty of young cattle and cows offered. The largest percentage of young cattle were vealers and weaner steers and heifers in a mixed line up of cattle. There were several pens of well bred weaners, however increased numbers of plainer type young cattle went through the sale.

Cow prices saw a slight drop on last week averaging 227c/kg and reaching a top price of 270c/kg.

Heifer prices were easier with lighter stock up to 250kg averaging 254c/kg and topping at 330c/kg. Heavier heifers over 250kg averaged 258c/kg and reached a top of 338c/kg.

Bull prices were stronger with 20 head sold averaging 238c/kg and 759kg.

Steer prices were cheaper with lighter stock up to 250kg averaging 330c/kg and reaching a top of 412c/kg. Heavier steers over 250kg averaged 320c/kg and topped at 396c/kg. A small number of bullocks sold on the day averaged 280c/kg and reached a top of 300c/kg.

Vealer prices saw a drop averaging 247c/kg and 250kg and reaching a top of 370c/kg.

George & Fuhrmann have a store sale at the NRLX on Friday, May 12 with 700 head expected.
