The XPT fleet is getting an upgrade that will take trains off the line on the Grafton to Sydney trip (and return).
Buses will replace trains on this line for the next 12 months until mid-March next year.
The four daily train services to Casino and Brisbane (and return) will continue to operate as scheduled.
State MP Richie Williamson wants the State Government to offer the bus replacement service at a drastically reduced fee.
“I’m calling on Premier Chris Minns to do the right thing and introduce 50-cent fares for passengers using the replacement road coach service during this upgrade period,” Mr Williamson said.
Mr Williamson also urged the State Government to guarantee that local rail workers will not suffer financial losses because of the service suspension.
The State Government said it has committed more than $40 million over five years for the XPT Life Extension Project.
