A cup of coffee has gone down in price – yes down, from $4.70 to $4.50.
Hemlocks Bookshop & Coffeehouse in Woodburn has reduced the price and owner Candice McLaughlin said it was “something to brighten everyone’s day.”
“Call me crazy for lowering the price and giving out free coffees in the current climate but so far our customers are loving it and we have access to keep our prices the same for the next little while so why not?” Candice said.
There would need to be a few tweaks to keep the price low as Candice still had to pay the bills but she is committed to making sure her customers can enjoy an affordable cup of coffee.
The cafe uses loyalty cards where customers get a free coffee for every seven cups they buy.
Candice worked at Hemlocks for a year before buying the business, having previously worked at Vespas in Evans Head for more than two years.
“I have 15 years of hospitality experience working in many cafes and restaurants around the Northern Rivers for the past 14 years,” Candice said.
“I have lived and worked in and around Broadwater for the past 10 years. I have two children who attend Broadwater Public School.”
Hemlocks was started by Samuel Allis after the 2022 floods.
In January this year, Samuel sold the business to Candice to pursue his dream of roasting coffee and learning everything about coffee from his coffee guru, Gerard Dwyer. Samuel now supplies Hemlocks with the coffee from his new roastery – Rainforest Roastery.
Candice said the coffee prices and loyalty card reflected the values of the business – community, value for money, quality and consistency.
