Police seize cannabis plants worth $52million at rural property

Police seized more than $52million worth of cannabis at an Ellangowan property at 11.30am yesterday, Tuesday, November 21.

The drug and firearms squad and Richmond Police assisted by the dog unit and Northern Rivers region enforcement squad attended the property.

Seven people face court today, Wednesday, November 22 where police will allege that the property was being used for the large-scale cultivation of cannabis.

At the property, police allegedly found more than 15,000 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of $52.7million.

Six men aged between 41–61, and a woman, 52, were arrested during the operation and taken to Lismore Police Station.

All seven were charged with participating in a criminal group activity, and knowingly taking part in the cultivation of commercial quantities of cannabis.

They were refused bail.
