Richmond Valley Council advises Casino residents that the local sewerage network is currently operating at full capacity because of the ongoing heavy rainfall.
The excessive water inflow is placing significant pressure on the system, increasing the risk of overflows and disruptions, the council said.
“Our water-sewer team is actively monitoring the situation and will respond to residents’ calls for assistance if it is safe to do so.”
If residents notice sewer overflows or blockages, they should report them immediately by calling 6660 0300.
Public health and safety remain our top priorities, the council said.
“We advise residents to avoid contact with floodwater, which may be contaminated. If the water backs up into your home, it is advisable to evacuate to family and friends if able, or go to the Casino Showground.”
