Time to find a bargain, a treasure or both this Saturday, September 21, as Second Hand Saturday rolls out across the region.

The day is hosted by North East Waste and local councils with car boot or market-style sales happening in people’s front yards.

This year more than 300 garage sales have registered to take part across Kyogle, Richmond Valley , Tweed, Byron, Ballina, Lismore and Clarence Valley.

In Lismore, Richmond Valley and Kyogle there are 90 participating garage sales, including those more out of town garage sales in Geneva, Bentley and the Bonalbo United Hospital Auxiliary.

Second Hand Saturday coordinator Linda Tohver said the day was a way for the community to get together and embrace reuse and repair, by keeping perfectly good items in circulation.

“There are also many items that can no longer be bought new, and fashion trends that simply aren’t ‘in’ right now. By shopping secondhand, we have local access to such a variety and at a fraction of the cost to buying new,” Ms Tohver said.

“With the added benefit of supporting locals and keeping items out of landfill, the positives for our community participating in Second Hand Saturday are huge,” she said.

Head to the Second Hand Saturday website or download the free app to find the list of sales.

Second Hand Saturday is coordinated by North East Waste on behalf of member North Coast Council’s and proudly supported by the NSW Environment Protection Authority.
