Congratulations to Mia Mackay and Claudia Whitney after winning Junior Showgirl and Junior Showgirl runner-up in the Far North Coast Group 1 final at Maclean yesterday, Saturday, March 29.
Winner Mia Mackay, 13, from Kyogle was representing the Casino Show Society.
“I didn’t expect to win,” Mia said.
She was shocked and proud, she said.
Mia grew up in Kyogle and she has a passion for agriculture.
She is the proud owner of a small Charolais stud and enjoys showing the breed at local shows.
Mia has shown cattle at shows between Bellingen and the NSW/Qld border, and this year she will participate in three royal shows including Toowoomba, Sydney and Brisbane.
Mia wants to use her new role as Junior Showgirl to encourage other young people to get involved in their local show.
Runner-up Claudia, 16, represents the Bonalbo Show Society.
Claudia is from Bottle Creek near Bonalbo. She goes to St Mary’s Catholic College in Casino.
She loves to work on the family farm with the cattle and horses.
“I run my own western accessory business called Rough and Tough where I hand make and design all my products,” Claudia said.
“I make scarves, scrunchies, earrings, keychains, ties and more.”
