Two police officers were assaulted last night while arresting a man, 39, for an alleged breach of bail at Urbenville.
At 8pm yesterday, Sunday, September 17, officers were called to a home on Tooloom St, Urbenville, following reports of a domestic violence-related incident.
When he was arrested, the man allegedly assaulted the two police officers.
One of the officers received a bite wound to his hand.
The constable, 27, went to Lismore Base Hospital and is undergoing surgery for the wound to his hand.
The other constable, 24, had scratches to his hands but did not need to go to hospital.
The man was taken to Lismore Police Station where he was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer in execution of duty, causing actual bodily harm, two counts of hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty, and wounding a police officer executing duty reckless as to actual bodily harm.
The man was refused bail to face Lismore Local Court tomorrow, Tuesday, September 19.
