Do you have questions about the observatory planned for Mallanganee Lookout? When will it be built? What will it look like? Will the community have a say?

Kyogle Council is holding a community meeting about the Mallanganee Observatory on Wednesday, March 19 at 5pm at Mallanganee Hall.

There has been a lot of talk about the project, and this meeting is a chance for locals to hear more about it.

In 2022, Kyogle Council applied for funding under the NSW Government Regional Tourism Activation Fund to deliver an open armillary sphere at the Mallanganee Lookout. The project includes upgrades to road access to the lookout and a network of new paths and toilet facilities.

The council will begin work on Stage 1 of the construction phase with site preparation works, construction of the observatory structure and roadworks, building of pathways, toilet block and lighting.

There will be some tree trimming, landscaping, and signage done.

The council plans to start preparation work this month in March 2025, with construction beginning in April. The project is expected to be completed in November.

The council has said it will provide regular updates as the project progresses including dates for specific works.
