Government’s big bucks to fix potholes to come to councils within weeks

The State Government has announced another road-fixing program worth $500 million.

This could be good news for Kyogle and Richmond Valley LGAs as more than half the money will go to regional councils.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the application process would be simple and the cash would be available immediately.

“The new funding will start landing in councils’ bank accounts within weeks,” Mr Farraway said.

Premier Dominic Perrottet said he had listened and understood the pressure councils were under from the many months of wet weather.

“We recognise potholes are a major hazard right now. This critical funding injection will help every council across the state patch up potholes as well as carry out other emergency repair work,” Mr Perrottet said.

This new funding of $500 million boost is on top of the $50 million Fixing Local Roads Pothole Repair Round announced in October last year.

This funding doesn’t change the State Government reneging on a promise to transfer 15,000km of regionals roads from councils to state ownership.

Repair work funded under the new half a billion funding must be carried out by December 31 this year.

Can this funding be used for the Clarence Way?
