Covid’s on the rise – how to reduce your risk

Covid cases have jumped 72% in a week and we are now in our fourth COVID wave.

As more people come through the region in the holiday season, the pressure will build even further.

To keep things under control, you can keep doing the little things to keep your family and your community safe.

Masks: Wear a mask indoors in situations where you may be close to others, such as in shopping centres, on public transport or in groups.

Symptoms: If you have any cold or flu symptoms, stay at home and get tested with a RAT or a PCR test. You can record a positive RAT at Service NSW so you can get connected to care.

Stay away from people at risk: If you feel unwell or have tested positive to covid, do not visit aged care facilities or hospitals and postpone any contact with vulnerable people.

People at risk of severe disease, including elderly people or anyone who has a compromised immune system are encouraged to talk to their GP ahead of any possible infection to discuss eligibility for antivirals (treatments) and for a pathology test referral in case they become unwell.

Antivirals can prevent severe disease developing and so they can save you from time in hospital and cut your risk of death.

Vaccines: The current covid vaccines still protect against serious disease, so it’s worth keeping your vaccinations up to date.

For most people that means having the initial two doses then two booster doses.

To book a vaccination, go to the covid-19 vaccine clinic finder – see screenshot above.

Vaccines not only protect the person receiving them, they help reduce the spread in the community.
