Casino and Woodview RFS fire crews responded to a bushfire on Sextonville Rd at 8pm on Wednesday, March 17.

Lightning from a storm had ignited a section of bush. There was a large pile of timber nearby and it caught on fire too.

The landowner had a permit to burn the timber piles but with the predicted heat over the coming days, had requested the pile be managed by RFS.

More than 12,000 litres of water and foam were needed to cool the pile so the landowner could manage and control it.

Fire crews  were at the property for about three hours.

Smoke may be seen in the area for the next few days as the pile is burnt out.
