It was the Evans Head community that alerted the council to the deterioration of the breakwall.

Part of the breakwall on the north side at Evans Head has been damaged by storm events since 2020 including the 2022 floods.

Former tropical cyclone Alfred caused substantial damage in March.

Richmond Valley Council has erected protection fencing and temporary closure signs.

While the council is responsible for the footpath, what lies underneath, as in the breakwall, is the responsibility of NSW Maritime transport for NSW.

For safety, fencing was installed along the breakwater crest in December 2022 where the armour rock had slipped.

Signs have been put up warning of restricted access on the breakwall.

This fencing has since deteriorated and is no longer effective.

The community is strongly encouraged to avoid using the breakwater for fishing or other recreational purposes until further notice.

The planning and design work has been completed and Transport for NSW is seeking funding options.

IndyNR.com asked for a specific date on repairing the breakwall, but none was given. It is about the money and when that will be available to fix the breakwall.
