The recent cyclone and flooding event experienced by many across our region is a good reminder and prompt to make sure our homes are prepared for future events.
This includes clearing out problem waste – old paint, gas bottles and fire extinguishers, fluoro globes and tubes, household and car batteries, smoke detectors and motor or other oils, which may be piling up around your home.
In the event of a natural disaster, these types of waste if damaged or washed away can leach chemicals into our environment and pose a risk to human health.
Don’t leave it to D-Day – declutter your home ahead of storm season and safely dispose your household problem waste for free at your local CRC so it can be recycled or disposed of safely. Household problem waste cannot be disposed of in any household bin.
Plus, if you have handheld batteries to dispose (up to 5kgs), drop them into one of the many conveniently located B-cycle collection points at retail outlets across the region.
Items with embedded batteries such as e-scooters, smart watches, cordless vacuum cleaners and vapes, can also now be recycled for FREE at select Council locations.
