Delays in electrical equipment from China push Norco factory reopening to August

The reopening of the Norco Lismore ice cream factory has been delayed because of supply chain issues.

The factory in South Lismore was inundated in the February 28 floods.

While the rebuild has been going well, the impact of covid in China has caused delays in sourcing critical electrical equipment needed.

Norco chief executive Michael Hampson said he was disappointed by the delays.

“After the damage the factory incurred, rebuilding the ice cream facility has been no small feat,” Mr Hampson said.

The timelines for the opening of the Norco factory have had to be adjusted and the plan is for the ice cream production line to begin in August.

“The first wave of employees would be welcomed back to work then,” Mr Hampson said.

“Our teams are working incredibly hard so that we can welcome back our workforce and recommence making Australia’s best tasting ice cream as soon as possible.”

The full engagement of the workforce will be done in a phased approach with the factory being fully operational by the end of October.

Once fully operational, Norco will remain one of the region’s biggest private employers.
