Richmond Valley Council said it was disappointing news to hear that Primex was moving to Lismore.
The council said it has worked hand-in-hand with Primex Field Days over the past 40 years to grow the event.
Every year, Richmond Valley Council provides $25,000 cash in direct sponsorship support to Primex, as well as extensive in-kind and logistical support.
Richmond Valley Council general manager Vaughan Macdonald said the council had committed to continue this level of financial support for a Richmond Valley based event venue.
“Council supported Primex through covid and the impacts of natural disasters which required changes to the event’s timing,” Mr Macdonald said.
The change of location of Primex impacts farmers and businesses that have been involved in the ag event – some since its inception 41 years ago.
Richmond Valley Council aims to grow more events in Casino, including the Australian Working Dog Championships and Heritage Weekend held at the recently upgraded Casino Showground and Racecourse.
The council and a dedicated group of volunteers have turned the Casino Truck Show into a national regional event within three years.
Mr Macdonald said with the council’s Invest and Live team and the newly released Economic Development Strategy, it is committed to further establishing the Richmond Valley as a regional growth centre.
“Richmond Valley Council wishes Primex every success for the future in its new location and wishes Lismore City Council and the new venue well with its new relationship,” Mr Macdonald said.
