Disaster Recovery Allowance to give immediate financial support for workers impacted by floods

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visiting Lismore today, Monday, March 10.

If your income has fallen well below the average Australian weekly income as a result of the recent floods, the Federal Government is activating financial support.

The Disaster Recovery Allowance offers up to 13 weeks of income support for eligible workers and sole traders who have suffered a loss of income as a direct result of the Cyclone Alfred event.

This support will be available in 17 Local Government Areas in NSW and 14 in Queensland.

In NSW this includes Richmond Valley, Kyogle, Clarence Valley, Lismore, and Tenterfield.

Applications will open at 2pm on Tuesday, March 11.

Before claiming, people can check their eligibility on the Services Australia website.

The easiest way to claim is online through myGov.

If people need help to claim, they can call the Australian Government Emergency Information Line on 180 22 66.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, “At the worst of times we see the best of the Australian character.”

“That’s exactly what we’ve seen in the past week in Queensland and NSW,” he said.

If you make a claim, do let IndyNR.com know how you get on, not for publication but so we can see if the system is working and how the claim process works. Our email is indynr.com@gmail.com
