Dramatic drone footage of derailment, track has reopened

Kris McDonald used his drone to film the fallout from the derailment between Kyogle and Nammoona where 11 freight wagons came off the tracks.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation confirmed the derailment occurred on the Brisbane-Sydney interstate line between Kyogle and Nammoona at 12.30am on Tuesday, May 31.

Independent investigators including Office of Transport Safety Investigations and Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator have completed on-site examinations.

Removal of the damaged wagons has begun.

This is anticipated to take a number of days and will complicate initial repair work, however ARTC has begun moving materials on-site ahead of remediation work and is committed to working around the clock to reopen the line as soon as possible.

Estimated re-opening is Sunday, June 5, however, this may be updated following further assessment after the removal of the damaged wagons.
