Electrical workers have walked off the job today, Tuesday, December 3 to highlight the wage dispute with the State Government.

Electrical Trade Union (ETU) officials said more than 2000 Essential Energy workers would stop work for 72 hours and part of the action includes refusing to turn power back on should it go out.

This includes Casino, Kyogle and Lismore workers.

ETU NSW secretary Allen Hicks said while the state was heading into a hot summer that would put added strain on the electricity grid, it would not stop electrical workers from taking industrial action if their wage demands are not met.

All depots will be backed up by control room operators and staff are available for emergencies.
