Casino Court House has been closed since the floods in February last year.
At the Richmond Valley Council meeting on May 16, Mayor Robert Mustow said cases were initially held at Kyogle Court House after the floods and now were held in Lismore.
“This adds travel time,” Mr Mustow said.
The council plans to write to the Minister for Communities and Justice to hurry along repair works.
The impact of the closed court house is being felt by police having to attend cases in Lismore and by those attending court having to deal with the extra costs.
There is an economic impact on Casino too with the loss of regular court days bringing professionals and community members into town.
The council report stated, “there is concern that if the court remains out of action for a long period, a decision could be made to not reopen it.”
