New recruit Geoffrey Steven will work out of the Coraki Fire Station.

He is among 214 accomplished men and women who have graduated as officers at the FRNSW Emergency Services Academy in Sydney.

South Grafton Fire Station has Ryan Raymond as their new recruit.

Every year about 8000 applications are received and only a few hundred people graduate as fire fighters.

State MP Chris Gulaptis said crews not only put out fires but also dealt with a range of other emergencies, including natural disasters, car crashes, building collapses and sometimes even cats in trees.

The State Government has invested $900 million into Fire and Rescue NSW this financial year.
