Last night fire crews were called to a house fire at New Park, near Kyogle.
At 10pm, yesterday, Wednesday, July 23, RFS crews rushed to a double storey farmhouse on fire.
The house was fully alight when crews arrived. It took two hours to extinguish the blaze.
The timber home had been moved to New Park in 1913.
As there was asbestos in the house, firefighters wore breathing apparatus.
No one lived in the house and it had been unoccupied for three months.
A neighbour up on the hill saw the flames as he was about to go to bed and called emergency services.
The cause of the fire was investigated and it is believed to have been started by a possible combination of rats, moisture and electricity (the power had not been turned off despite the house being unoccupied).
Crews attending included Kyogle HQ RFS, Casino RFS, Fire and Rescue Kyogle and police.
