Richmond Valley Council has repaired the Casino Footbridge and it has been reopened for those wanting to cross Richmond River.
Work has started on a new suspension bridge in the same area and the council has asked everyone to be respectful of safety fencing and signage associated with the new construction.
The structure will be built above flood levels and is designed to withstand strong river flows.
The new suspension bridge is funded through the Community Local Infrastructure Recovery Package and it will provide a shared path for pedestrians and cyclists.

Construction of the new bridge is expected to be completed by mid 2026.
