The Casino VRA Rescue Squad has announced the death of Eric Box who was a Foundation and Life member of the rescue squad.
In 1980, Eric was a founding member of the Casino Rescue Squad. He dedicated an extraordinary 45 years of volunteer service to the community.
Throughout his decades of service, Eric held many executive positions within the squad from president to captain.
His most significant and enduring contribution was as the training officer where he shaped generations of rescue operators with his skill, patience, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
Eric was formally recognised by the NSW State Rescue Board as a senior rescue instructor.
This role was a testament to Eric’s ability to teach, mentor and demonstrate complex technical rescue skills. He was one of the finest technical rescue instructors in NSW.
Only recently, the rescue squad from Casino stood beside Eric and his family during the loss of his beloved wife Margaret on November 9, also a Life Member of the Casino VRA Rescue Squad. Margaret was 79.
Jumbunna Community Preschool wrote on social media that the preschool’s fleet of cars were purchased at Eric Box Mitsubishi in Casino.
The Bentley Art Prize committee said Eric was a true community-minded soul, long time supporter and sponsor of the Bentley Art Prize.
“Your generosity, kindness and long-standing commitment to our beautiful community will never be forgotten.”
Eric passed away peacefully at home from a medical condition.
