Finley Kook, 6, put a watermelon seed in the ground at Horseshoe Creek a few months ago.

He watered it and watched it grow.

His grandmother Venessa Kook said he looked after the watermelon all by himself.

This Saturday, January 21, Finley will be taking his big watermelon to the Summerland Giant Pumpkin and Watermelon Festival to be weighed and judged.

His proud parents and grandparents will be with him.

His grandparents Karlton and Venessa Kook run Kook Harvesting and they are one of the sponsors of the festival.

Finley’s parents have a business called Kooks’ Baling Service and they are sponsors of the festival too.

“Finley is extremely proud of his watermelon,” Venessa said.

“We were away harvesting out west for the wheat season and he made sure he watered it every day and talked to it and encouraged it to grow.”

And grow it has.

Come and see Finley’s much loved watermelon at the festival this weekend.
