Robyn Heagney was unable to stand by and watch her friend she’d known since primary school go through so much hardship.

“Rebecca and her family are going through just too much. The worst of which is her youngest daughter, Kayla, 22, who is trying her hardest to beat liver cancer and has been battling it for the last 15 months,” Robyn wrote on the fundraising page she set up to help the family.

“Their family home at Woodburn has been flooded and needs an extensive rebuild. Not to mention replacing every appliance and furniture.”

The family are staying at a relative’s house as they need to keep Kayla comfortable as she is unwell.

“Bec and Phil are still working full time as they have had to do their whole lives,” Robyn said.

“They deserve a hand-up as they try to get their family back in their family home.”

To see them be able to afford repairs at their own house in their own yard while their home dries out and is rebuilt would mean the world to them, Robyn said.

Robyn wants to ease the pressure on her friend as the family focus remains on Kayla with doctors visits, hospital treatments and in “making some precious memories”.

Robyn said Bec and Phil have never and would never ask anyone for anything.

She started the fundraiser as a surprise for them. The target is $20,000.

If you’d like to help the Mitchell family go to the fundraiser.

The family’s home in Woodburn was inundated.
