Casino Rural Fire Brigade crew has been busy.

On a windy Tuesday, August 1, Casino 7 attended a bushfire at Wyan after a fire the landowner lit escaped.

A helicopter was called in to contain the fire.

Casino 7 and other Northern Rivers units returned to the Wyan property today, Wednesday, August 2 and set up a backburn.

Crews will return again tomorrow to continue the operation.

This fire comes after four fires last Sunday with landowners continuing to underestimate the conditions we are currently facing, the brigade said.

At one of the fires, a friendly pony visited and crew members took a photo.

It isn’t just the past few days, but a couple of weeks that have kept Casino fire crews busy with a large number of escaped landowner fires.

On Saturday, July 29 the Casino crew responded to a morning grassfire at Babyl Creek to assist other units already on the scene.

Then two Casino units were called to a grassfire at Myrtle Creek.

At about 4pm, Casino 1 and 7 went to another grassfire on Ellangowan Rd.

An easterly wind pushed the fire to the west putting some buildings under threat.

Several crews responded and assisted in extinguishing the blaze with help from local property owners.

The brigade urged people to think about their plans to burn and have adequate resources to deal with their own fire before lighting it.

The RFS needs more members, find out more about joining up.
