Get to know Kashmir Miller

Kashmir Miller Greens

I was born in Lismore and grew up in the Northern Rivers – I have lived here my whole life and attended local public schools.

My childhood memories growing up local include camping trips in the diverse areas of Northern NSW, going on hikes with my family and connecting with our biodiversity and wildlife.

Currently, I am studying a law degree with the aspiration to use my degree to make serious changes to our current system through statutory and policy reform.

My life philosophy is to give a voice to those who are silenced. The natural environment, flora and fauna cannot speak for themselves or vote in our elections.

Our parliament too often favours the wealthy ‘elite’ in our society, which has shaped my philosophy to make sure our government represents us all.

My life song is Affirmation by Savage Garden, it has been my hype song for this campaign so far.

Going into politics has been less of a personal desire and more of a choice made from necessity. We need immediate change before it is too late, and young people have the motivation and fresh perspective to make smart and brave choices to turn the political game around.

I’m lucky to have many strong women in the Greens to look up to – to name a few Sue Higginson, Mehreen Faruqi and Vanessa Ekins. These women have been a shining example that politics doesn’t have to be stuck in the past but it can look to the future.

Three things that I value most in life is:

Family, which I am lucky to have in abundance as a fifth-generation Northern River resident

Wildlife and environment. Being surrounded by animals has always been of great importance to me.

A strong sense of community connection and unity.
