Getting to know Robert Hayes

Richmond Valley Council, Robert Hayes, Evans Head, Independent

Tell us about where you live and your family
I was born in Kyogle. I’ve been an Evans Head resident living in town for 30 years.
My three children all went to school here as do my grandchildren.
My oldest two children have re-located to Woodburn to raise their families because of affordability in Evans Head.
They are both well known in the Lower River area. My partner Tanya works in the area as do her two children. I’ve worked in Evans Head in the building trade for the past 30 years
If you’ve been a councillor – what are you most proud of in your previous term?
I’m proud to be part of a united council with no political input.
I’m also proud of the major community infrastructure projects the council has gained funding for, managed, completed, some of which are still on-going.
What do you bring to the role of councillor this election?
I have been successful on a lower river ticket two times before and now for the third time I am running on what I consider to be a Richmond Valley ticket to be able to represent the entire area. I have been successful in getting elected and have spent the last nine and a half years as a councillor so I bring a lot of experience.
What brings you joy in life?
Living in the Richmond Valley and watching my family and extended family grow.
What difficulties does your community face?
Future water security, dealing with the waste we generate, rising living costs and sustainable development.
What is your job? What do you like/dislike about it?
I have always worked in the building trade. I have worked my way up from an apprentice carpenter to become a licenced builder, gaining qualifications along the way to now operate as a building consultant  and designer.
I have always been self-employed.
I have enjoyed every minute of it
Dare to dream – what is your vision for your region?
The current council is a successful, united group who represent the entire Richmond Valley area on both a local and a regional level. I would like to see this maintained into the future so that everyone’s dream can be fulfilled and we can all prosper.
Robert is also running for Richmond Valley mayor.
