Kyogle Council, Tom Cooper, Gorge Creek, Independent
Tell us about where you live and your family.
I live on a property just out of Bonalbo. It is a dairy farm and I’ve been here for 25 years.
If you’ve been a councillor – what are you most proud of in your previous term?
I was a councillor two full terms ago.
During that time, I was proud of the disability access provided to Bonalbo. I spent two hours with a fella with no legs who used a wheelchair. That gave me ammunition to push for funding for disability access for kerbsides.
What do you bring to the role of councillor this election?
I am an approachable person and I listen to people.
What brings you joy in life?
Becoming a grandfather,
What difficulties does your community face?
There is a number of things on the horizon. The Clarence Way is one.
We also need to get a group together to stop the march of the cane toads. They are coming out of Toonumbar dam.
What is your job? What do you like/dislike about it?
I am a dairy farmer. I was director of Norco for 12 years and was also an auctioneer and agent.
Dare to dream – what is your vision for your region?
I’d like to see more small family agriculture on a sustainable level to bring more families back to the region.
