The single-lane Bungabbee Bridge at Bentley has been upgraded with a new concrete bridge enabling heavy trucks to cross Back Creek.
Richmond Valley mayor Robert Mustow and Lismore mayor Vanessa Ekins were at the official opening of the bridge.
Bungabbee Bridge is one of ten aging bridges that are being replaced across the Lismore LGA.
Federal MP Page Kevin Hogan said the new bridge will remove the existing load limits.
“The load limit has been detrimental to the families along this road as they have had no heavy vehicle access,” Mr Hogan said.
The project saw 20 jobs in the nine-month construction period.
The NSW Government contributed $300,000 to the Bungabbee Bridge project as part of the $500 million Fixing Country Bridges program.
