Emergency service crews had a different kind of callout when a calf slipped down a 3metre embankment at Tatham at 8am today, Sunday, April 7.
The banks of the Richmond River were vertical and there was no easy way out for the distressed calf.
Casino VRA Rescue and the SES went to Tatham to assist the calf.
On arrival an impromptu boat ramp was made by winching the boat and trailer down another less steep section of the embankment where the SES inflatable boat was launched.
One rescue squad member entered the river to flush the calf away from overhanging branches and snags.
The crew was then able to get a rope around the calf and swim him back to an area of river bank where he was able to get out.
The calf ran straight to its mother mum and immediately started feeding.
The calf was a little shaken from the ordeal but unharmed.
