HORNET HIGHLIGHT: Videos and photos of the fast jet in the sky

ABOVE: This composite photo of the F/A-18F Super Hornet on Anzac Day flying over Kyogle was taken by Richard Malawkin

Richard Malawkin managed to take some stunning photos of the F/A-18F Super Hornet flying over Kyogle on April 25.

The jet was fast yet Richard captured the image below. Here’s how he did it.

“I used a 100mm lens infinity focused then switched to manual focus. RAW file capture, mode dial set to manual with 1/1,500s shutter and f8.0 aperture settings and ISO set to auto. Scanned sky with shutter button half pressed to make sure ISO didn’t go below 100 or way too high. All good with ISO during sky scanning, so no further adjustments. ISO landed on 320 for this photo.”

Once Richard was home he worked on the photo.

“Lightroom, adjustments: WB from 5500K to 6500K, exposure +0.18 and shadows +42. (underside of plane was underexposed in small section behind central fuel tank) Crop 22Mpixel down to 1.7Mpixel.”

Below are two videos captured in Tabulam and Woodenbong of the same jet.

Jeanette Flannagan took this video of the super hornet as it flew over Tabulam.
Ashley Clarke filmed the hornet at Woodenbong.
