A house in Stratheden was burning long into the night before emergency services were called at 7.30am today, Friday, August 19.

NSW RFS Northern Rivers zone acting manager Boyd Townsend said when the brigades arrived, the building had burnt to the ground.

“They were just mopping up,” Mr Townsend said.

The house was unoccupied and had been for a period of time, he said.

A neighbour had raised the alarm and called triple zero this morning.

Three trucks came from Kyogle HQ and two trucks from Casino RFS to put out the fire.

The cause of the fire was being investigated.
