It looks like there’s going to be a lot of choice at the council elections

There’s quite a crowd of candidates already declared with many more to come.

The lead-up to this year’s council elections is looking interesting with 21 contenders already publicly stating their intentions.

IndyNR.com predicts there will be nearly 30 candidates to choose from on voting day with 3–4 candidates vying for the mayoral position.

Below are the people who have so far declared they are in the running for Richmond Valley Council:

John Walker, former Richmond Valley Council general manager, is running on a ticket with Stuart George, Kylie O’Reilly, Scott Brereton and Annabelle Toohey.

Robert Hayes is currently a councillor and he is running on a ticket with Debbie McGillan (councillor), Tracey Knox, Neale Genge, Daniel Simpson (former councillor) and Rachel Arthur.

Lyndall Murray is running on a ticket with Bianca Rayner, Kylie Maunder, Samuel Allis, Nathan Scully and Hanabeth Luke.

Mayor Robert Mustow is on a ticket with current councillors Steve Morrissey, Sandra Humphrys and Sam Cornish.

IndyNR.com asked councillor Patrick Deegan if he was running again.

“We will be announcing our intentions closer to the nominations in August,” Mr Deegan said.

IndyNR.com predicts there will be at least four tickets plus some independent candidates.

Nominations to run in the council elections close on Wednesday, August 14.

Then all candidates will be declared and we will be publishing a comprehensive list.

Voting is on Saturday, September 14.

Most importantly, make sure you are registered to vote and your details are correct on the electoral roll.

We will be asking each candidate many questions in the lead-up to the election and will interview each mayoral candidate.
