Tabulam markets has been revived with a new look, new location and a different approach.
The markets are on the second Sunday of the month and will be held at the Tabulam Oval.
The next market is on April 9.
Tresea is the new coordinator.
“We are initiating three new shared community stalls,” Tresea said.
“You are invited to bring your excess produce, plants and secondhand books and join the community stall where we can sell our goods together.
“Our focus is on getting local produce to the markets where we can develop a thriving food economy.”
The markets include all types of secondhand stalls including blankets, car boots and trailers.
“All those big bulky unwanted items that are filling your shed,” Tresea said.
“This is a fantastic way for kids to make pocket money.”
Part of the market revival is the rebranding.
A horse was chosen as the symbol for the market.
We featured the horse because of the long history of importance of the horse to the region, Tresea said.
“Every person who came here first to the region of the Wahlabul tribe of the thousands of years old Bundjalung Nation came via a horse.
“Then followed industries built around the strategic necessity of good horses suited to this regional environment, and then to the stamina and endurance needed to work and survive in this often-harsh countryside.
“The breeding of horses to suit this region resulted in the Australian horses of the Light Horse in World War II being the greatest warrior war horses in history.”
