There was a large yarding of 2500 head at the NRLX cattle sales today, Wednesday, July 15.
The yarding of young cattle was made up of mainly w. eaner steers and heifers and the odd pen of yearlings.
Quality of the weaners was mixed with several runs of well bred cattle through the sale, however there was a fair number of plain cattle offered that were showing the affects of the season.
Restockers acquired most of the weaners, destined for Western areas and Queensland. Competition was strong with restocker weaner steers selling firm to slightly dearer ranging from 462c to 595c, averaging between 535c and 595c/kg.
Restocker weaner heifers held firm with odd sales slightly dearer depending on quality and weight, ranging from 410c to 519c/kg.
Yearling feeder steers toped at 542c, while yearling heifers sold to 450c/kg.
The export section consisted mainly of cows, although there was a few pens of grown heifers offered, while there was insufficient numbers of heavy grown steers for a quote. Grown heifers reached a top price of 419c/kg.
The large yarding of cows consisted of increased numbers of plainer grades being penned, however there was several lines of heavy well finished cows sold.
The market held firm with all the usual buyers active, resulting in a strong market. Medium weight 2 score cows sold from 300c to 368c, restocker cows toped at 355c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows averaged 363c and heavy cows ranged from 380c to 394c/kg. Heavy bulls reached a top price of 400c/kg.
