There are plans for the laundromat at 39 Summerland Way, Kyogle to be fitted out with a tobacco kiosk.
The laundromat is a brick commercial building constructed in 1928, known as Burtons Buildings.
A development application is currently on exhibition at Kyogle Council and submissions supporting or opposing the refit must be made by July 13.
The shop will still be a laundromat but will include a tobacco kiosk.
The business is owned by Fadhil Jaber Hasan Alsawafi of Alsafy Trade Pty Ltd.
The internal fitout will include a new room at the front of the shop measuring 3.2m in length and 2m in width with a total area of 6.4sqm. The entire shop area is 116.4sqm.
The room will include a service desk where clothing and laundry items can be dropped off and collected, and money can be exchanged for coins to operate the washing machines and dryers.
Items for sale will include laundry detergent, cleaning items and small gift items such as drinks and snacks which you would normally find in a vending machine, tobacco, crystals and giftware.
No changes are proposed to the current operating hours.
The site has been developed as a commercial premises since circa 1928 and operated as a computer shop up until 2018 and since then as a laundromat under a development consent issued by Kyogle Council
