Four students from Kyogle competed in a Lego comp in Gladstone, Queensland today, Saturday, November 25.
Kyogle High School students Xavier Mazouin, Michael Hawthorne, Lucas Marychurch and Ewan Wilkie came third out of 18 teams in the FIRST Lego Challenge at the Foxwell State Secondary College in Coomera last Saturday.
The top five in that competition went to Gladstone for the national comp. The top three placegetters from the national comp go to Asia.
Principal Gae Masters said the students decided on a Lego challenge for their project work last term.
“They got right into it,” Ms Masters said.
They build vehicles and add robotics that make the Lego cars pick up rocks and do other tasks.
From that project the students became enthusiastic about taking their skills further and asked to enter the FIRST Lego Challenge.
Their coach, deputy principal Lee Boyd travelled with them to Gladstone.
Xavier, Michael, Lucas and Ewan came 18th out of 40 teams today.
