Students at Kyogle Public School celebrated the upcoming Olympics with each class representing a different country today, Wednesday, July 24.
Former Olympian and Kyogle resident Athol McQueen who competed in boxing at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 was there to watch the celebrations.
He told the students that the Olympics would be held in Brisbane in eight years time and there was an opportunity for them to compete.
“You get out of sport what you put in,” Athol said.

He reminded the students to put their education first and sport second.
Assistant principal Aoife Bryant organised the event.
Students waved the flags of their chosen country as they did a lap of honour to the country’s national anthem.
It was a fun and colourful way to celebrate the Olympics starting in two days time.
