Tonight, Janelle Saffin and her campaign crew can celebrate a big swing to Labor — and to Ms Saffin in the State Election.

By 7.20pm, ABC was announcing the seat of Lismore for Labor.

On Ms Saffin’s Facebook page, people were congratulating the MP.

Georgine Gill said: “Well done Janelle. First seat called. Landslide for you.”

Khay Dixon said: “I’ve never seen such genuine love for a local member as I have seen for you. It shows in people’s faces.”

On ABC TV Ms Saffin said a voter told her: “Can you fix the potholes and climate change?”

Ms Saffin’s last term had her working with a government in opposition and she now will be a government MP with Labor’s Chris Minns as premier.

“I will put forward what our needs are,” Ms Saffin said.

“The next big thing is a complete wraparound especially economic to help us recover the best way we can.”

Ms Saffin said what she wanted most was good communication.

“The Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation are doing great work but they don’t know how to communicate.

“They are here for us. This recovery has to be community-led.”
