Just after midnight, on Friday, January 30, a fire crew rushed to a lithium battery fire at a unit in Beech Street, Evans Head.
When the Fire and Rescue Evans Head crew arrived all the occupants were out of the two units and the fire had been extinguished by a resident using a CO2 extinguisher.
The fire was caused by a portable power bank that was charging.
The situation could have been much worse if there was not extinguisher present and also highlights the dangers of leaving lithium batteries on charge over night, Fire and Rescue said
It was an all-female firefighter crew that dealt with the situation.
Paramedics attended and one woman was slightly affected by smoke inhalation but did not require treatment. No one was taken to hospital.
