It rained on and off but Casino COW Country Music Muster co-organiser Sandra Humphrys was all smiles.

For the first time, the music muster was held in the undercover arena at the Casino Showgrounds.

The showground upgrade opened last month and hosting performers and bands on stage today, Saturday, May 4 was a bit of a test run.

The final act was Danny Phegan and his band.

Allan Caswell from the Gold Coast performed at the muster. He is an eight-time Golden Guitar and ARIA award winner. Caswell is known for writing the music to the TV series Prisoner.

Sandra said about 70 caravans and motorhomes were at the site to enjoy the music.

Some had come from Tasmania, Newcastle and Brisbane.

“We want local people to come and see the talent in their hometown,” Sandra said.

Sandra organised the muster with Darrel Maher and Mahlon Carthew. Funding came from the Yugilbar Foundation and Richmond Valley Council.

We’re spoilt for space this year, and there’s a new carpark, Sandra said.

The first music muster was held a couple of years ago and it had to be moved to the Casino RSM Club because of weather.

This year, the bands and the audience stayed dry in the arena.

The audience could sit in the arena or on the seating around the arena.

Local charity groups Rotary, Lions Club and the CWA catered at the venue.

Sandra said she’d like to see the music muster grow into a major event in Casino.
