Just after 11am today, Sunday, March 19 police were called to the Casino Showground on Summerland Way after reports a man had been assaulted.
When police arrived, a 48 year old man allegedly assaulted a police officer before he was arrested and taken to Casino Police Station.
While in custody, the man became unconscious.
Despite the efforts of responding police and paramedics, the man died in custody.
The homicide squad will investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
The investigation will be subject to an independent review and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
