After a busy morning training in the river, Marine Rescue Evans Head received a call about a boat that had broken down about four nautical miles from the bar at about 1pm, today, Tuesday, July 9
Marine Rescue said the vessel did everything right by calling early and having all their safety gear ready.
Skipper Kira Hartland, crew Bill Bates and Bill Brownhill with trainees Rob Ferguson, Kelly Lollback and Steve Lloyd towed the boat back to the boat ramp.
Radio operator Kerry Turpin and trainees Garry Dodds and Allan Virtue managed the incident from the radio base at the lookout.
Marine Rescue member Geoff Shew came back to the base after already doing an early morning radio shift.
